Tanzania is so rich in tourist attractions. About 38% of Tanzania’s land area is dedicated to conservation areas. Tanzania tourism and travel contributes significantly to their GDP and employs quite a significant number of the population hence highly prioritized.

It has three Africa safari circuits making it a top tour and travel destination. The Northern circuit is the main Tanzania tourism and travel circuit and hosts Serengeti and Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Tanzania National Parks offer stunning wildlife viewing, a variety of safari, chimp tracking, and unadulterated indigenous cultures.

Tanzania Animals/Wildlife

Tanzania has a wide variety of small and big mammals found across her protected lands. They include the Lion, Leopard, Cheetah, Elephant, Cape buffalo, Zebra, Wildebeest, Hippopotamus, Waterbuck, Warthog, Eland, Gazelle, Sitatunga, Monkey, Hyena, Chimpanzee, Baboon, Sable, Duiker, Bushbuck, Kudu, Crocodile and many others.

There is also plenty of birdlife with hundreds of bird species on record. They include the Ostrich, Flamingo, Eagle, Falcon, Twinspot, Trogon, Duck, Woodpecker, Lovebird, Starling, Owl, Kingfisher, Dove, Stork, Mousebird, Crane, Hornbill, Guineafowl, Cuckoo, African Jacana, Lapwing, African Spoonbill, African sacred ibis, hamerkop, Ibis, Heron, Egret, Bustard, and many others.

Serengeti National Park is best for viewing big cats while Ngorongoro Conservation Area is suited for viewing the black rhino. These two parks play a pivotal role in the Great Migration of Zebras, Thomson’s Gazelles, and wildebeests.

Tanzania Weather and Climate

Tanzania has a tropical climate but varies regionally.

In general, Tanzania has two rainy seasons- the long rains and the short rains. Long rains begin from March to May with a peak in April. The short rains begin from October to December with a peak in November. June-August is the coolest period of the year and it is dry. January-February, the weather is hot and sultry.

The best time to travel to Tanzania is during the dry seasons i.e. June-August and January-February. It is easy to view the animals as they gather around the remaining water bodies and when the bush is thin allowing clear visibility.

Wet seasons mark the beginning of a new generation as animals give birth and the sprouting the vegetation. This time may, however, bring a navigation problem since the trails are not predictable and most of Tanzania roads are less tarmacked, unlike Kenya.
