Lake Naivasha is one of the Kenya Great Rift Valley Lakes (Lake Nakuru, Lake Baringo, Lake Magadi, Lake Bogoria, Lake Logipi, Lake Elementaita and Lake Turkana). It is located in Nakuru County near Naivasha town which lies on the north-east edge of the lake.
It is a freshwater lake at the highest elevation of the Kenya Rift Valley fed by the perennial Malewa and Gilgil rivers and other transient streams. The lake doesn’t have a visible outflow but it is assumed it has an underground outlet since it is a freshwater lake.
In terms of size, it covers 139 km2 of surface area and is surrounded by a swamp whose size depends on the rainfall amount at any given period of time. It is 20ft deep on average with the deepest part being at the Crescent Island, a depth of about 100 ft.
Lake Naivasha Animals/Wildlife
The lake is home to a variety of wildlife including a significant population of hippo, buffalo, giraffe, warthog, antelope, and monkey.
Birdlife is abundant here-over 400 species on record which includes Fish Eagle, Weaver, Pelican and Warbler.
There is a significant community of fish especially the common carp.

Lake Naivasha Weather & Climate
Temperature is about 25C on average, with an average rainfall of about 450mm.
In a year, there are two rainy seasons. The long rains begin from March up to April and the short rains begin from November up to December.
How to get there
It lies North West of Nairobi a distance of about 94 km. Use Nairobi-Naivasha Road. It is on the Moi South Lake Road.
