Tsavo East National Park is located or touches four counties namely; Kitui, Makueni, Tana River, and Taita Taveta Counties. It is under the management of the Kenya Wildlife Service.
It is one of the oldest and largest national parks in Kenya. It occupies a surface area of 13,747 km2. The park borders its sister national park, Tsavo West National Park and they are separated by the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway and Standard Gauge Railway.
Tsavo East National Park ecosystem consists of semi-arid grasslands and savannah.
Inside the park, Athi and Tsavo rivers converge to form the Galana River. Galana River also known as the Sabaki River is the second-longest river in Kenya after the Tana River. Other features include the Lugard Falls and Yatta Plateau.
This Park is unique in its own ways. You will find lava flows, springs, man-eaters, and stunning sunsets.

The park climate is warm and dry.
This area has two rainy seasons. The long rains experienced between March and April and short rains between November and December.
Temperatures are about 25°C on average.
When to Visit
You can visit Tsavo East National Park all year round avoiding rainfall peak months-April and November-when trails are not dependable.

How to get here
By Road
Mtito Andei Gate is 233 km from Nairobi and 250 km from Mombasa on the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway. Mtito Andei Gate is 96 km from Voi. If coming from Malindi, you enter the park through the Sala Gate.
By Air
Airstrips Aruba, Satao, Ithumba, and Cottages will do the trick.
