Meru National Park is in Meru County, about 350 km from Nairobi, Kenya’s capital. The park is among the most popular Kenya tourists and travellers destinations, under the custody of the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS).
This park was promoted in the award-winning movie Born Free alongside Samburu National Reserve, where Elsa the Lioness was raised and buried

The park has a wide variety of animals including Elephant, Rhinoceros (eastern black and southern white rhinoceros), Zebra, Bohor Reedbuck, Hartebeest, Hippopotamus, Python, Cobras, Lion, Leopard and Cheetah.
It has also a wide variety of birds-over 427 species of birds.
Meru Weather and Climate
This area receives abundant rainfall. The Wettest periods are from March-May and October to December. Dry periods are between January-February and June-September.
The West part of the park receives about 762 mm of rainfall while the east part of the park receives about 356 mm of rainfall.
Meru climate is warm with an average annual temperature of 18C.

How to get there
By Road-it about 348 km from Nairobi and can be accessed via Nyeri-Nanyuki-Meru/Embu. It has two gates, Maua to Murera Gate if accessing via Nyeri-Nanyuki-Meru and Ura gate if accessing via Embu.
By Air-through Kina Airstrip close to Meru Mulika Lodge and Elsa’s Kopje airstrip
